Literature Text

The curtain fell months ago
The stage is empty
The band’s gone home
The audience cheers long silent now
The vacant seats, silence abound
No one’s around, no one’s around

The bed is cold
The sheets are made
The door is locked
The blinds are drawn
Dust and webs fill this room now
No one’s around, no one’s around

The blood still flows
Synapses flash
The heart beats on
Impulses clash
And though the body is safe and sound
No one’s around, no one’s around

A desolate desert
A mountain of dirt
A scorched meadow
Abandoned field
Cheerful chatter silence fills now
No one’s around, no one’s around

And when you walk out
Turn off the light
Extinguish the candle
Let the blame pass
Deep in your soul an emptiness profound
And I’m not around, I’m not around
This one would probably be up there in the Top10 of my most favourite poems that I've written over the years. It had been frist written sometime in 2004, but I never got it quite right. I've spent a few minutes on it now (haven't touched it since it had been written) and I think after a rewrite or two, it's now much closer to what I wanted it to be. I might come back to it again at a later date, but for now, this is as good (or bad as the case may be) as it gets. I hope you'll enjoy it. :)
